pengusaha muda

There have been many Indonesian entrepreneurs who have become successful at a relatively young age. Hard work, persistence and strong will are some of the contributing factors that have brought these entrepreneurs to their success. These entrepreneurs have different business interests: from culinary to digital services.

As we all know, there have been numerous startup companies who contribute to the country’s economy. A lot of these startups are led by young entrepreneurs who started their businesses from zero, and some of them have brought their companies to unicorns status.

These are 3 successful young Indonesian entrepreneurs who have been successfully inspiring our youth to succeed:

William Tanuwijaya

Some of you may not be familiar with William Tanuwijaya, but everyone knows the e-commerce titan Tokopedia.

William Tanuwijaya is the genius behind Tokopedia. He was born on November 11, 1981, who moved to Jakarta to study at a university.

William’s journey to becoming one of the most successful entrepreneurs was not easy. He once worked as a warnet (internet cafe) operator to make ends meet. His experience as a warnet operator gave him extensive knowledge on how the internet works.

After working as a warnet operator, William started a rocky professional career: working at various software companies and game studios. These experiences gave him the idea for a business, and this business idea was what became Tokopedia which officially opened in 2009.

Ferry Unardi

Ferry Unardi was born on January 16, 1988. Ferry is known as the founder of Traveloka, an online travel service which helps customers book their plane and train tickets and hotels.

When he was still a university student, he thought of opening a startup business which focuses on helping people find plane tickets. As Ferry’s idea was novel and unique, there were a lot of investors who were willing to invest in his startup business. Since 2012, Traveloka has become the biggest online travel service in Indonesia.

Ahmad Zaky

Ahmad Zaky, born on August 24, 1986, is known as the founder of one of Indonesia’s biggest online marketplaces, Bukalapak.

Zaky first became interested in IT when he was still in elementary school. This interest was what brought him to his current success.

Bukalapak started out as a digital agency division called Suitmedia which later changed status to a PT (Perseroan Terbatas).

Since its inception in 2010, Bukalapak has gone through a rather difficult journey. During its first years, the public were not yet familiar with online shopping. Thanks to Zaky’s persistence, Bukalapak became more and more known and it has since been able to successfully attract local and international investors.
